Microdermabrasion

No matter what your age or skins condition, microdermabrasion treatments will assist in helping you with improving the tone and texture of your skin. There are many ways your skin is affected; For example stress, emotional trauma, poor eating habits, our polluted environment, and sun damage all contribute to the condition of our skin.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure used to rejuvenate the skin. The top layer of dead skin is removed during treatment, while promoting the production of new cells in the deeper layers of the skin. It stimulates the production of skin cells and collagen.

Microdermabrasion is an effective treatment for

  • All skin types
  • All body areas
  • Fine lines/wrinkles
  • Age spots/liver spots
  • Blackheads, acne
  • Shallow acne scarring
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven tone and texture

What types of results can be expected?

The procedure involves spraying a fine jet of sand-like crystals onto the skin and, using a highly controlled vacuum, sweeping up the crystals and the top epidermal layer. As microdermabrasion brushes away the damaged cell layers, it also stimulates the skin's production of collagen and helps to maintain the elasticity of the skin. This process exfoliates the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which will result in a firmer, more youthful looking skin over time. Your skin will feel vibrant and healthy and you will notice an immediate difference in your softer, smoother skin. There is virtually no recovery time, no discomfort and you can return to work immediately. Microdermabrasion treatments train your skin to speed up the renewal process, encouraging healthy appealing skin. There are no side effects and no “downtime” It is so convenient that it is often referred to as the "lunchtime face lift."

Superficial Chemical Peels

Superficial chemical peels utilize Glycolic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) or fruit acid that is naturally found in sugar cane. It rapidly removes dead surface skin, revealing fresh smooth skin underneath and it stimulates the formation of new collagen to thicken the skin. It is a mild superficial peel that may cause tingling for a few minuets, but does not require a long recovery time. Improvement is noticed almost immediately. I use various strengths of glycolic acid to deliver the very best results, depending on the skin type and condition.

Both men and women of any skin color can be treated successfully with light chemical peels. I also have specialized peels for teenage and adult acne, as well as rosacea. For full benefit a series of six peeks are performed two to four weeks apart. You may experience mild redness for a few hours and a mild flaking for the next day or two, but most patients can apply some makeup and continue with their regular activities. Sun protection is very important. One maintenance peel every two to three months or so will help keep skin looking fresh.

What conditions benefit from light chemical peels?

  • Sun damaged skin
  • Dull, rough skin
  • Irregular brown pigmentation, age spots and freckles
  • Fine lines and mild acne scars
  • Acne and rosacea

What improvements are seen?

  • Healthier-looking, more radiant skin
  • Softer texture, smoother skin
  • Reduction in brown pigmentation
  • Improved acne and rosacea
  • Reduction of fine lines and mild acne scars

What areas can be peeled?

Almost any area can be peeled, Most commonly, the face neck, chest, and the backs of the hands.

Can chemical peels be combined with other anti-aging treatments?

Yes. Chemical peels compliment most other anti- aging treatment such as microdermabrasion and dermaplanning. Complexion’s carries anti-aging products to help maintain the results of your treatments. I offer many different anti aging treatments and can customize a treatment plan that is right for you.

Acne Peels

Acne Defined

Acne is a skin condition that manifests as various types of bumps including whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and cysts. It is estimated that at some point in our lives, acne affects 80% of the population. When the pores of the skin become clogged with too much oil, dead skin cells, and/or bacteria, the result is acne. Factors including heredity, stress, hormonal changes, medications, birth control pills, heat, sun, humidity, friction against the skin, cosmetics/moisturizers and some industrial chemicals can all trigger an outbreak. There are several types of acne lesions. The basic lesion is a comedone which is a sebaceous gland blocked by oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. A closed comedone is a small skin-colored bump under the skin; an open comedone has a surface opening filled with black debris. When inflammation is situated deeper in the pore, a nodule (a firm red painful bump deep under the skin) is produced. This nodule may grow and become a cyst which is a deep cavity filled with pus and cellular debris.

Chemical Peels For Acne

Chemical peels for acne can drastically improve your acne condition and the overall appearance of the skin. Chemical peels for acne work by removing the surface layers of the skin in order to expose the fresh and unaffected layers below. The popularity of chemical peels for acne is growing rapidly, as these treatments are proving to be efficient at treating acne with little risk of complications.
When considering chemical peels for acne, it is important to speak to practitioner who is trained and experienced at these types of treatments. You and your practitioner can discuss your medical history, current condition, and desired results in order to determine if acne peels for acne are right for you.
We will take into account your skin color, extent of damage, oiliness of your skin, and your type of acne condition in order to determine your eligibility for acne peels. In addition to treating acne, these treatments can also improve skin pigmentation and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) and Betahydroxy acids (BHAs) are two of the mildest formulations used in chemical peeling for acne and other skin imperfections. Some chemical peels for acne include salicylic acid, which is often very effective in treating acne. Lighter chemical peels for acne do not generally require a lot of downtime, though it is normal for patients to experience mild redness, irritation, and crusting which will subside as the body adjusts to treatment. Chemical peels for acne usually require that treatments be repeated every four to six weeks. If you are interested in chemical peels for acne, you may wish to speak to a practitioner who can evaluate your skin condition and a variety of other factors to determine what chemical peels for acne would work best for you.

Micro-pigmentation/Permanent Cosmetic Procedures

Eyebrows

Don't have any eyebrows?  Can't put them on without your glasses, but your glasses are in the way?  Do they come out crooked or uneven?  Do your penciled brows wear off during the day? For these reasons and many, many more, women all over are finding that permanent eyebrows are perfect for them.  From providing a basic guideline for you to follow should you like to pencil them yourself, to total brow recreation, we can create you anything from a few hair strokes to fill those holes to dramatic fully colored brows that even your closest friends won't believe aren't your own. Together we will create eyebrows for those with sparse or undefined brows. With fine brush strokes, individual hairs are "created".  With the hypoallergenic pigments that are used, several colors are blended to complement your skin tone for a natural brow. Well-defined eyebrows give balance to your face.  Proper placement of eyebrows actually gives your face a natural lift

Eyeliner

Does your eyeliner smudge?  Does it wear off during the day?   Have trouble getting it straight or even?  Allergic to cosmetic products or your allergies cause you to re-apply several times a day?  Maybe your job requires that you go traditional make-up free.

More women everyday are finding that for the above reasons and much more permanent eyeliner is perfect for them.  Eyeliner can be applied in many styles and colors, from soft, natural looking lash enhancement to a defined line--the choice is yours!   Whatever look you choose, you will wake up, shower, exercise, work, swim, and go to bed always looking your best. Together we will create a thick and bold liner, soft and subtle liner or an eyelash enhancement where Permanent makeup is precisely placed in between each lash at the base of the lash line. This defines the shape of the eye and creates the illusion of thick full lashes. It is up to you!  By enhancing your eyes with permanent makeup they will become larger and more striking.

Lip Liner, Liner and Blend and Full Lips

Tired of re-applying your lip liner and lipstick over and over again during the day?  Do the current all day lipstick brands make your lips dry or chapped?   Would you like more definition, fuller lips, or to correct a crooked lip line?   Just wish you had back some of the color you had when you were younger?   Lip liner can be applied to give more definition, correct uneven lips, or add fullness to the mouth.  The procedure also helps prevent lipstick from bleeding and can minimize the appearance of wrinkles.  Full lip color can be applied in either a natural hue or a more vivid one.  Wear your permanent lip color alone in a natural tone or apply different shades of lipstick over your permanent lip color for a more dramatic look you will find that the color lasts all day. The aging process causes the lips to loose definition and color. With permanent makeup, we will redefine and shape the lip line. The lip is then, if desired filled or blended with custom mixed color, this gives the benefit of lip liner and a full healthy lip color in one procedure.  For a deeper shade, darker colors may be used.

Modified Jessner's Solution

The Modified Jessner's peel beautifully blends 14% salicylic acid, 14% lactic acid and 14% resorcinol.  It is recommended for light to medium skin types and for those who do not easily stain following injury or insect bites.  It is indicated for the treatment of hyperpigmentation, acne marks, acne, and general sun damage. The Jessner's peel is excellent for all skin types. It smoothes and rejuvenates the skin producing beautiful results, peeling the face, neck, hands, and upper chest is also quite effective. The Jessner's peel is very beneficial for patients with acne, oily, or thicker skin, because it tends to decrease oil production and open clogged sebaceous follicles. It also contributes to the healing process of acne. The Jessner's peel combines resorcinol, lactic acid, and salicylic acid to result in deeper penetration and greater exfoliation of the outer layers of skin cells than alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s) alone. This deeper exfoliation produces noticeable flaking and exfoliation in the following three to four days after the peel, and within a week a smoother, healthier layer of skin will be revealed.

How Does The Jessner's peel work?

Unlike the higher percentages of glycolic peels, the Jessner's peel is comprised of more than one ingredient (14% resorcinol, 14% lactic acid, and 14% salicylic acid), each of which acts in a slightly different manner for significantly visible exfoliation and minimal complications.

Resorcinol is a derivative of phenol, which has been used as a peeling agent since its introduction in 1882. Resorcinol helps to provide a numbing effect and increases the depth of the lactic acid and salicylic acid penetration.

Salicylic acid is an important component of the Jessner's peel, because it penetrates directly into sebaceous follicles as well as the broad skin surface. Thus, it is able to work directly upon any waxy buildup within sebaceous follicles that is associated with acne by dislodging blackheads and pustules, opening the sebaceous gland and stimulating the elimination of wastes.

Lactic acid occurs naturally in the human skin as part of normal metabolic processes. Several studies have shown that lactic acid has a natural moisturizing effect on the skin; it draws water molecules already present in the skin towards the surface. In the also noted when lactic acid was used in conjunction with a moisturizer, it enhanced the absorption of the moisturizer into the skin. This characteristic enables lactic acid to ensure the evenness of the Jessner's peel. While lactic acid is a normal human metabolite and therefore completely non-toxic, those allergic to aspirin and women who are pregnant should avoid undergoing a Jessner's peel due to the high concentrations of salicylic acid and resorcinol.

If you are allergic to aspirin (which is similar to salicylic acid), you should not undergo a Jessner's peel. If you are not sure whether or not you are allergic, your practitioner should test a small area of your inner, upper arm prior to applying a full-face peel.
